Barley grass has long been considered an important “functional food” that promotes health and supports disease prevention. For many years, it has been a foundational part of the health and wellness industry and is widely used by health-conscious consumers around the world. This contains chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
At The Barley Company, they recognize the good properties of barley grass and its health benefits. This has led them to develop a comprehensive selection of everyday barley-based products through their Nutraceutical Series.
Why the barley we distribute is the BEST barley?
Our Barley is From New Zealand
Our barley grass is grown in the Canterbury region of New Zealand which lies in the country’s South Island. This 44,508 square-kilometer area is one of the most important agricultural and horticultural areas in the country. Canterbury Plains are formed on a fine-grained fertile or alluvial soil particularly well suited to growing cereal crops such as wheat, oats, and barley.
Our Barley is Certified Organic
Not every farm and product that claims to be organic is organic indeed. The Barley Company provides only organic barley from farms certified by BioGro (New Zealand’s largest and best-known certifier for organic procedure and standards). This label on their product assures their customers that products they buy and consume are free of pesticides, free of chemical preservatives, and free of chemical fertilizers.
The BioGro New Zealand Certification is exclusive to The Barley Company‘s Barley Powder 110gms (Canister).
Only Young Barley Leaves Are Harvested
The young leaves of organic barley are harvested only once, when they are below 30 cm in height. Only the barley tops, where nutrients are concentrated, are harvested. No second or third harvest of young barley leaves are in any of The Barley Company‘s barley products.
Producing The Barley Company's BARLEY POWDER: Did You Know?
The process of harvesting to drying takes only about 1 to 6 hours to assure freshness and preservation of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and amino acids.
1. PREPARING THE LAND
This process includes ploughing the land, fertilizing the land (making sure the soil has enough nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, sulfur, magnesium, and calcium, etc.), cultivating the seed bed and then sowing the seed.
2. HARVESTING THE LEAF
Leaves are about 30cm in length and it takes a specially designed harvester to mow and collect the leaves. Then, it is transported and unloaded in the dryer.
3. DRYING THE BARLEY LEAF
The barley leaves are dried to reduce its moisture content from 85% to 5%. Once dried, these leaves are ready to be milled into powder.
4. MILLING THE LEAVES
The leaves are processed into a fine mill to make the very fine green powder used in The Barley Company's products. The powder is then packed into 20kg cartons and is ready to ship to The Barley Company.
THE GOOD STUFF IN BARLEY
Young barley grass is densely packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in its chlorophyll-rich content.
When you open a pack of The Barley Company‘s barley, here are all the good stuff you will find. . .
VITAMINS is a group of substances that is essential for normal cell function, growth, and development.
Vitamin content in young barley grass:
* Vitamin C aids in the immune system as it can help combat respiratory infections.
* Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 helps promote energy levels and support cell metabolism.
Vitamin content in in comparison—Check these numbers:
* 4 times the vitamin B1 in whole wheat flour
* nearly 5 times the iron content of spinach
* 6.5 times as much carotene of spinach
* close to 7 times the vitamin C in oranges
* 11 times the amount of calcium that there is in cow’s milk
* 30 times more Vitamin B1 than cow’s milk
* 80 micrograms of vitamin B12 per 100 grams of dried barley plant juice
MINERALS are important for your body to stay healthy.
* Calcium for building strong bones and teeth
* Magnesium aids and supports protein synthesis, muscle, and nerve function. It also helps in regulating blood glucose and blood pressure.
* Phosphorus assists in the maintenance, growth, and repair of cells and tissues.
* Iron helps fight fatigue and strengthens the immune system
* Iodine is vital for normal growth and development
* Chromium helps the body use insulin
* Zinc helps maintain bone health and may help prevent osteoporosis
* Nickel is involved in the production and action of certain hormones such as adrenaline, noradrenaline, prolactin, and aldosterone.
CHLOROPHYLL is a hemoprotein commonly known for its contribution to the green pigmentation in plants and is related to protoheme, the red pigment of blood.
* May act as an antioxidant for humans
* Has been used in hospitals as a deodorizing agent in the foul-smelling lesion and used to relieve itching pain and irritation
* Known to help stimulate the growth of health issues that are free from damage
* It is said to help or prevent certain types of cancers, such as colon, skin, and liver cancer. Although additional human studies are needed, preliminary research indicates that chlorophyll helps prevent damage to DNA caused by certain carcinogens.
* It helps reduce inflammation and can be used to help counteract the effects of arthritis, stomach ulcers, colitis, sore throats, and other inflammatory conditions.
* It helps speed up healing. Chlorophyll helps the body release carbon dioxide and also increases oxygen levels in the body. This process speeds up the development of new tissues and promotes faster healing from wounds and burns.
CAROTENOID is a phytochemical found in barley grass that can act as an efficient antioxidant.
* May help enhance the immune system and plays a part in the body’s defense by scavenging off free-radicals which can cause damage to our cells.
ANTI-OXIDANT ENZYME. Enzymes are biological catalysts or assistants. It consists of various types of proteins that work to drive the chemical reaction required for a specific action or nutrient.
How important is Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) enzyme?
* Repairs cells and reduces the damage done by free radicals
* Helps produce healthy skin-building cells
* As an anti-inflammatory, it neutralizes the free radicals that lead to wrinkles and precancerous cell changes.
DIETARY FIBER is generally known for delaying gastric emptying that generates a sensation of fullness and increasing bowel motility.
* Aids in digestive health
* Can help enhance the immune system since the majority of it lies in our gut.
